Community & Education

At Sigma, our work goes beyond delivering projects. We actively support the communities we work in, from local schools to wider regional initiatives across the UK.

From construction site safety education to hands-on school engagement, we aim to leave a positive, lasting impact wherever we operate.

Supporting Community Through Construction

Construction doesn’t just shape buildings, it shapes communities.

  • That’s why we take a proactive role in:
  • Educating young people about safety
  • Supporting local schools near active sites
  • Contributing to community and charity initiatives

Our approach forms a key part of how we operate as a responsible construction partner.

Keeping Young People Safe Around Construction Sites

When we are working in areas with high footfall, particularly near schools, safety awareness becomes critical.

Our SHEQ team delivers dedicated school sessions designed to help children understand:

– The dangers of construction sites

– Why restricted areas exist

– How to stay safe in real-world situations

These sessions are designed to be engaging, practical and easy to understand.

Real Engagement in Schools

Our work with schools is ongoing and forms a regular part of our project delivery where needed.

From classroom sessions to practical demonstrations, we adapt our approach depending on:

– Site location

– Level of exposure risk

– Age groups involved

This ensures every session is relevant and effective.

“Stay Safe, Stay Away” School Programme

Our “Stay Safe, Stay Away” school programme introduces construction safety through interactive learning.

Children take part in:

  • Icebreaker activities linked to construction environments
  • Learning about roles such as site managers and safety teams
  • Hands-on demonstrations of PPE including helmets and safety gear
  • Identifying real-world hazards through guided activities
  • Creating their own safety posters and messages

The aim is simple. Help children recognise risk and understand how to stay safe.

Making Safety Practical and Memorable

At Sigma, we focus on making safety education something children remember.

This includes:

  • Trying on PPE in a supervised setting
  • Watching safety demonstrations
  • Learning through games and creative activities

By making sessions interactive, children are more likely to retain what they have learned and apply it in real life.

Supporting the Wider Community

Alongside our work with schools, we are actively involved in a range of community and charity initiatives.

This includes:

  • Supporting local events and fundraising efforts
  • Contributing to community-led projects
  • Working with partners to deliver positive local impact

We believe construction businesses should play an active role in the communities hey operate in, not just during a project, but beyond it.

Resources for Schools and Educators

At Sigma, we also provide supporting materials that schools can use independently.

These include:

  • Safety presentations
  • Classroom-ready resources
  • Guidance on construction site awareness

These resources are available to help extend learning beyond in-person sessions.

Why it Matters

Community engagement isn’t an add-on. It is part of how we operate. By investing time in education and awareness, we can help to reduce the risks around active construction sites, support safer communities and encourage future interest in the industry.
