Sigma Revamps Asda Food Hub

The Facts

Customer – ASDA

Result – New food hub and enhancements delivered on time, in full, including extras, to drive customer experience.

Timeframe 3 Weeks. PC 1st September 2024.

Constraints – Out of operating hours.

The Challenge

This retail store refurbishment for ASDA needed to be delivered within just three weeks, with all works completed outside of trading hours. Works needed to be completed outside store operating hours, ensuring the shop floor was cleared for trading each morning. In addition, Sigma had to ensure there was always a baby station, as well as a male and female toilet available for customers. Disabled facilities were accessible at all times.

The Solution

Thanks to the skilled project management team working with Sigma’s own in-house services team, a plan was developed to deliver the project.

The work included removing and replacing electricals, knocking down and rebuilding walls, plastering, decorating, also replacing much of the equipment, as well as wall and floor cladding.

The Result

  • This retail store refurbishment was completed on time, within budget and to the highest standards.
  • The team maximised the footprint allocated to deliver increased storage space
  • Testimony to the workmanship of the onsite team, it was asked to deliver additional works; including the removal of five checkout banks, the installation of a queue buster with new scan-and-go facilities – all completed in a single night.
  • Sigma also found capacity to refurbish the kiosk areas, remove the customer service desk, and adjust the parcel drop box to improve ASDA’s customer experience.

“Our longstanding relationship with Asda has resulted in design and process efficiencies, ensuring that the project was completed successfully. I’m proud of how the team met the challenges presented by the project.”

Thomas Fletcher, Director of Sigma Retail Solutions.
