Before Sigma M&E could replace the generator and fuel tank system, it was imperative that the team installed, connected, tested, and commissioned a like-for-like standby generator to provide standby generation capability to the Distribution Centre in the case of a mains failure, including all fuel, electrical, comms. Only then, could work commence with the disconnecting and the subsequently removal of remove the existing generator from location.
Specifying a solution
Essential to the successful delivery of this project was the selection and installation of an efficient generator and fuel tank complete with fuel polishing and upgrade to the existing controls.
The chosen generator was a new Genesal energy 715kva with Comap Group controllers, new attenuation, silencers, dampers, exhausts, 300L bunded fuel tank, 1no load bank connection unit and mains control panel with G99 controls
This new tanker fill point incorporates a ‘Smart Type’ offset fill point system, including, a digital gauge, an overfill prevention valve, high and low sensors within the tank, fuel polisher and tank alarm control unit that is fully MCDP compliant in terms of emissions.
The new solution was complete with;
- Attenuation – to achieve sound levels as or better than existing site conditions.
- Controls for air intake and evacuation louvers
- Integral resilient anti-vibration mounts
- Links for the monitoring and report on its status.
- Connections to a new / integral exhaust system
- Dual Electric starting system
- Battery charging for starting system
- Generator domestic requirement wiring & provisions
- Fuel storage day tanks – level control, pumps and safety systems.
- Feeds from bulk tank fuel storage along with associated controls.
- Heavy Duty Class A lead acid batteries
- New External meshed louvre incorporating exhaust manifolds
General Scope of works
- All necessary fuel storage and distribution works
- Main LV Panel and control panels reconfiguration
- Removal of redundant plant and equipment and associated materials and waste
- Full detailed design of new generator installation
- Full detailed design of new generator controls
- Full design of new fuel distribution and local day tanks systems and delivery pipework to the generating sets
- New fuel polishing system
- Full detailed design of new generator panels / changeover system as necessary
- Full detailed design of new / modified ventilation for set
- Full detailed design for generator location, including attenuation & louvers as necessary
- Provision of Contractor Proposal for the full generator and controls installation including a full description of operations of the generator
- Supply, install test and commission all cable installation
- Before and after decibel level tests to confirm new installation does not exceed existing installation
- New Interconnecting sub main wiring, controls wiring. ancillary systems
- New lighting incorporating emergency lighting within the generator room
- Integrated systems testing of controls, generator, and forward sync panel on site prior to final connections
